On February 21, 2015, in West Vancouver, the Strategic Play team and a group of engineers had great fun playing in 3D using LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY™. Engineers use a combination of creativity, science, and math to design and build complex machines and systems to tackle a variety of problems.
Each and every day, engineers need to make complex decisions that impact final outcomes. They identify pertinent facts, define problems, create options, measure and weigh, decide on plans, gather stakeholders, and oversee the implementation of projects. This is an iterative process in a decision making system that is dynamic rather than static.
LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methodology is extremely useful to engineers and others who make complex decisions or work on messy problems. It allows them to check assumption, prototype and test, collaborate, and work within a system. Many project managers using agile processes find it a great tool to use for retrospectives, among other things.
On February 21, more than 50 professional engineers from the Iranian Engineering Association of Vancouver attended a short workshop to experience just how this tool works in real time. We had a great turnout and everyone had Serious Fun sharing their stories and ideas.
