    Eli

Thanks for your feedback. I actually had my meeting today with the project sponsor. I was somehow able to convey the merits of conducting an LSP workshop in one day and reducing the number and quality of participants to 10-12; with more higher-level outcome. So all these exchanges in the community paid off.

    Marko,

    thank you for forwarding…[Read more]

    Hello Gabriel,

Lately I didn’t participate a lot in the forum, but I am trying to start again. I am also located in Montreal, I started with LSP few years ago, and I am available to help you. For some reason, I am not in the list of Marko’s link, but I am living in Montreal :)
So far, you got very good comments from Marko, Eli, Bruce and others.…[Read more]

    Hi Dieter,

Here’s a link to our case study: http://www.caprese.org/EN/experience/Exp_Case_Swisscom_EN.html
Over an 8 month period, 300 period people went through the programme with CAPRESE involved. On a couple of occasions, including the pilot, we brought Per Kristiansen. Per also ran a full 4-day training with the client’s internal…[Read more]

Guys – in my business LSP is just a means to achieving an objective. The objective is for people to talk honestly and creatively and feel engaged in that discussion.

The objective is NOT to be become LEGO Master Builders! I get frustrated when participants place a few bricks and a couple of animals on the table, but if they then use that as the…[Read more]

@Gabriel – as a follow-up to Eli’s comment – there are 4 other facilitators in our community who are from your neighborhood in Quebec or Montreal: http://seriousplaypro.com/members/?s=Montreal – perhaps it is indeed worth getting in touch with them?

    Hi Gabriel,
I would suggest running a full two-day workshop with two facilitators. Why waste your customer’s time with a facilitator’s assistant?

Use a colleague from this fantastically rich network of professionals. Part of your added value is that you are a member of the Serious Play Pro Community. Your client should value this and pay for…[Read more]

Thank you Balint… it’s nice hearing from you by the way.

Marcos, splitting the group in two is definitely an option I considered given that participants come from two separate groups: a working group (hands-on operational people) and the steering committee (directors and leaders). Building 2 groups of 10 mixing and matching them would…[Read more]

    Gabriel, my two cents…
You mentioned the group was going to be 20 participants, I would do one of these 2 scenarios:
1- Split the group in half and have 2 separate sessions.
2- Have them all together in the room but use a facilitator assistant so you can have 2 tables of 10 working at the same time, you give one general instruction or…[Read more]

    Hi Gabriel,

Suggestion of Bruce worked me just fine. Few weeks ago I was in similar situation like You, just different topic. My client reduced the time from 6 to less than 3hours, which was clearly not enough. What I did was kind of a show-off, I pointed out during the workshop what a longer facilitation can do, and why it would be…[Read more]

    Hello Alan!

To be honest, I’m also not a fan of Duplo bricks. I was thinking the same, but users proove me wrong time to time. Although there are few ones like you described, most of them are using the animals/ bricks quite often and for complex models too. The animals/ windows are quite useful, so I will keep them in the set.
    My thoughts was to…[Read more]

Marko thank you very much for your input… this helps me tremendously. I will compare your planning with mine and make proper adjustments. Maybe the planning just might convince them to take one day. In fact I am meeting with the team leader tomorrow to work on the planning.

Bruce, your second point is quite valid, in fact when I told my client…[Read more]

    Hi All,

I´d be interested hear views and experiences on the use of Duplo and particularly the pre-built bricks (such as the animals). Every now and again, someone “builds” a made-to-measure metaphor in no time by just picking up one or two duplo bricks and voila – while the rest are digging deeper with their hands looking for answers on the…[Read more]

    Gabriel

I agree with what Marko has said and would only add two comments:

First, the firm probably doesn’t appreciate how useful LSP can be, and that is why they only gave you 4 hours.

Second, as they don’the know how useful this will be make sure they go away with ‘actions’ to implement and a subtle note of how you would take this further…[Read more]

The best you can do at this stage is some meticulous planning. Start from the very first minutes and write down all steps that you are planning:
    – Introduction to the day by company representative (15-20 minutes)
    – Introduction by you to LSP methodology, rules etc (10-15 min)
    – Warm up skills building exercises (20-25 min)
    – First individual…[Read more]

That’s my concern as well Marko. In fact when they first asked me to do this, I was immediately thinking of 1 day. When I mentioned this they frowned! On top of that the group will be composed of about 20 people.

Since I am new at this and this would be only my second workshop, what arguments can you suggest I use to convince them otherwise? Or…[Read more]

    Dieter,

I believe that longer sessions happen quite frequently. In SeriousPlayPro community survey https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/seriousplaypro we had a question: “What types of workshops do you deliver with LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®?” One of the answer options was very similar: “Continuous sessions with the same client over a long period”. Probably yes, because what you would need in this situation is probably quite extensive exchange on those ad hoc individual approaches that those individual employees have taken so far.

The main concern that I would have – is the time enough for this type of discussion given lots of diverging thoughts about the sector directions among the…[Read more]

    Marko

thanks for your reply and thoughts. The key word here is approach.

In fact my client is not so much looking at the workshop to help develop a sector strategy per say, but to think of the best approach or framework or mechanism, under which one or more sector strategies can be developed.

This stems from the fact that many of my clients…[Read more]

Gabriel – that is very interesting assignment you have been invited to assist. It goes beyond the core application of LEGO SERIOUS PLAY in trying to take steps in determining particular strategic choices for the firm. Hence – I see two potential scenarios for you.

One possibility is to frame the approach by using the Business Model Canvas…[Read more]

Thank you Marko, Debbie, Patrizia, Sebastian and Christopher!!

all your comments were useful for me, let me tell you that the session last month went great!
They were 10 participants and half of them knew each other and the other half didn’t (even though they work in same company). I went through the classic warm up, and included in my workshop…[Read more]
