Shigenori Asai

Shigenori Asai joined the Japan Water Forum in 2004. He led a successful campaign called “Mission Uchimizu” aiming at improving domestic water use and cooling down summer heat, which resulted in a national movement in Japan, and saw participation from millions of citizens.
After the Indian Ocean Tsunami occurred in 2004, Shigenori conducted reconstruction assistance activities and a training programme on disaster preparedness in Sri Lanka.
In 2007, he has put his efforts into the establishment of “Darvish Yu Water Fund”. The fund is donated by one of the most talented baseball players, Darvish Yu and the general public. The Fund is allocated to projects for safe drinking water supply in developing countries.
He is currently responsible for JWF’s activities in the fields of sanitation and sewerage works. In 2013, his team launched “Toilets Change the World” Project for a sustainable future through the resolution of sanitation problems and in the following year an awareness-raising project on disaster preparedness.
